The Science of Messaging

The Science of Messaging is a one-hour, in-person, professional development workshop designed to equip the American Left to fight back against decades of conservative and increasingly Right-wing dominance in the public debate.

We can learn how to communicate more strategically, to build political will in support of our causes and candidates, restore civility and basic human decency to our national conversation, and win converts by proudly making the case for our values and beliefs.

The workshop content is derived from well established cognitive science and behavioral psychology by leading experts like George Lakoff, Drew Westen and Daniel Kahneman. It will give you practical tools that you can use to influence public opinion, tools that conservatives and the corporate sector have used successfully for decades.

Why do we need it?

We’re on the losing end of an abusive relationship – and we want out.

The far-Right has learned how to dominate the public debate. They seize the attention of the media, demonize us, attack our language, force us into a defensive corner and gaslight the American people. People do not know who we are and what we stand for. We can’t get the media and the public to focus on our issues.

Understanding the science of language and the role that framing plays in the public debate is the key to unlocking our power, finding our voice, and freeing ourselves from this cycle of abuse.

  • Why depriving conservatives of attention is the most effective strategy for beating them in the public debate.
  • Why some strategies that work for Conservatives don’t work for us and how to beat them by making them play our game.
  • Why getting people to focus on what we believe to be right and wrong is the key to winning individual debates and getting more people to identify with us over time.
  • What are the essential components of an effective message.
